Freda joined Deloitte in August 2015 through the acquisition of System Dynamics where she was director for 10 years working as part of the leadership team building a business with revenue of €25 million. Within System Dynamics, Freda was Head of Client Service Delivery responsibility for the delivery of all client services across multiple service lines including programme/project management, business intelligence, asset management solutions, ERP solutions, development solutions and support services.
Through her varied career in Technology consulting, Freda has developed a strong understanding and passion for the use of data within businesses and has a keen understanding of how Data Analytics can drive real business value.
DR. EDWARD MCDONNELL
Edward is the Director of CeADAR (www.ceadar.ie), Ireland’s Centre for Applied AI and one of the EU’s designated AI Digital Innovation Hubs. Previously he was European Director of Innovation & Technology Research at Fidelity Investments. The role involved prospecting for technology and investment opportunities across Europe, Edward has also held various technical and global senior management roles in the Office of Strategy and Technology at Hewlett-Packard Europe based in England. Edward holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, is a Fellow of the IEE and the ICS, and is the named inventor on 76 granted patents. He has been awarded several international prizes including one from Scientific American for outstanding leadership.
DR. MICK KERRIGAN
Dr Mick Kerrigan is the Chief Science Officer at RecommenderX, who are focused on delivering personalisation and recommendation technology to enterprises. Mick has over 15 years’ experience working in data science, machine learning, and Big Data across a range of industries including financial services, telecommunications, media, and employment. Mick holds a PhD In Semantic Web from the University of Innsbruck in Austria and spent a number of years working in EU framework projects. He has published extensively in conferences and journals, as well as authoring two textbooks in the area of Semantic Web Services. Mick has also chaired standardisation groups in both OASIS and TM Forum. In 2014, he received the TM Forum Outstanding Contributor Award for his work creating the Big Data Analytics Solution Suite, a comprehensive Big Data reference model and use case catalogue for telecommunication providers.

DR. MICHAEL PHELAN
Dr Michael Phelan has been working in Analytics for over 15 years, with a Masters in Management Science and a PhD in Supply Chain Optimisation from the Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin. During that time he published in several international peer-reviewed journals and books and presented at international conferences in USA, Europe & Asia. He has lectured masters & undergraduate students in analytics and supervised award-winning masters supply chain projects.
Michael also has extensive experience in industry working & consulting for large-scale multinationals in electronics and medical device sectors in demand & business planning, analytics and IT. Prior to joining DePuy Synthes, he led a multi-million-dollar technology transformation program for the TSC Group (ANZ) aimed at re-establishing the business post a troubled receivership period. This successful transformation led to the acquisition of the group by Engie, one of the world’s leading energy providers.
He joined DePuy Synthes (medical device companies of Johnson & Johnson) in 2015 and is currently leading the Supply Chain IT Data Science Group developing a team of data scientists, employing diagnostic & advanced analytics to supply chain problem-solving. Michael has presented at several international conferences on supply chain optimisation and sits on university and Irish government groups aimed at promoting supply chain digitalisation and optimisation.

Alessandra Sala, Head of Analytics Research at Nokia Bell Labs, has more than 10 years of experience in research and innovation, both in academia and industry. In her prior appointment, she was the technical manager of the Data Analytics and Operations Research group in Bell Labs Ireland. Before that, she held a research associate position in the Department of Computer Science at University of California Santa Barbara. During this appointment, she was a key contributor of several funded proposals from National Science Foundation in USA and her research was awarded with the Cisco Research Award in 2011. Before that, she worked for two years as post-doctoral fellow at UCSB right after she completed her Ph.D in Computer Science at University of Salerno, Italy.
Her research focus lies on distributed algorithms, data analytics and complexity analysis with an emphasis on graph algorithms and recently AI, machine learning and deep learning. In her previous research she has developed efficient distributed routing algorithms that support robust and flexible application level services such as scalable search, flexible data dissemination, and reliable anonymous communication.
She was recently the Technical Program Committee Chair of WWW 2016, the general chair of ACM COSN 2014 and has served on the TPC of several networking and data mining conferences as IEEE INFOCOM, WWW, P2P etc. Two of her recent awards are: Distinguished Member of the 2015 IEEE INFOCOM Technical Program Committee and Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP) Innovator of the Year 2017.
Andrew built much of NewsWhip’s original technical platform as the company’s first developer. He is now responsible for the management of NewsWhip’s technical operations and technical vision, overseeing a growing team of software engineers, machine learning specialists and product developers building and maintaining the NewsWhip platform. Prior to co-founding NewsWhip, Andrew worked as a Technical Architectural consultant for Accenture in Dublin.
He also co-founded easydeals.ie, a website that allowed any business to create a geo-tagged profile and broadcast deals, sales and coupons to the online and mobile audiences.
In October 2016, Andrew was named winner of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Emerging Category, along with his NewsWhip co-founder, Paul Quigley.
Andrew has a degree in Electronic Engineering from UCD, and a Masters in Management Science from the Smurfit Business School.
Pat has 25 years’ experience working as an IT Professional, he has a BSc in Computer Applications from DCU & Diploma in Project Management from UCD.
In his current role, he works as a Technologist with Enterprise Ireland, concentrating on prospecting & evaluating ICT investment opportunities for both multi-national and Irish indigenous companies. Areas that interest him most include Business Intelligence / Predictive Analytics, Machine Learning & Cyber Security.
He has extensive experience working as a career IT specialist across project management, software solutions and database architecture design.
Pat has established a solid understanding and business acumen for the power of data within SMEs and has a deep appreciation of how Data Analysis, Governance & BI Reporting can build credible and sustainable business engagement.
DEEPANAND SAHA ROY
Deepanand Saha Roy heads the Data Analytics practice at Pramerica, located in Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland and a subsidiary of parent company Prudential Financial, Inc. He is a seasoned data analytics professional with diverse experience supporting data-driven decision making at large organizations through a multi-disciplinary approach (Analytics, Market Intelligence and Primary Research).
In his current role at Pramerica, he leads an exceptionally talented and highly motivated team of Data Scientists, Data Analysts, Data Visualization Experts and Big Data Engineers that helps Prudential Financial solve some of the toughest business challenges using data and a range of sophisticated analytics tools and techniques. Prior to moving to Ireland in 2015, Deepanand spent several years in Boston working for Fidelity Investments in a variety of leadership roles.
Deepanand is an alumnus of the Accelerated Leadership Program at Pramerica, and is part of the American Chambers Emerging Leaders’ Steering Group representing Northwest Ireland. He has an MBA in marketing and bachelor’s in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics from leading academic institutions in India. He is a subject matter expert on Customer Loyalty Economics.
Max is Chief Information Officer in Staycity Aparthotels, Ireland. He has worked all his life in IT and predominantly in data and analytics related projects. His vast technical knowledge coupled with strategic vision make for an interesting mix of skills around data management and governance, delivery and execution, analytics and data science, visualization and MI.
His expertise also lies in organizational models, data strategies, operational and execution models, data quality and metadata management, Agile, SAFe and CRISP frameworks.
Max is very passionate about the industry and grateful he was able in all these years to embrace the new, welcome change and drive transformation for companies like Oracle, Microsoft, Digital, Compaq, HP and HPE and various financial firms like Ulster Bank, Pioneer Investments and AIB.
Outside of the data universe he has lived the rock star dream in the 80s, has written his own comic book line and is known as the Irishspawn in the action figures and collectibles world.

After completing a Ph.D. in Highway Engineering, Martin Perry spent 5 years in Project Management roles in the Building Materials Industry. In 2000 he moved into the Software Industry, undertaking Finance, Strategy and Senior Leadership roles with IBM and Microsoft.
In 2011 he suffered a major head trauma when cycling home from work. 2.5 years of recovery followed. During his rehabilitation, he completed the PMP certification in late 2013, then returned to Microsoft, as a Senior Data Professional. He has recently completed the EDX.org hosted Microsoft Professional Program – Data Science.
He is currently championing the use of data throughout Microsoft Operations.

OISIN FERGAL LYONS
Oisín Fergal Lyons is the acting head of Data Science and Incubation in the Aon Centre for Innovation and Analytics, Dublin, specialising in using advanced analytics for data-driven insights across Risk, Retirement and Health insurance. He is a graduate from Trinity College in Mechanical Engineering, publishing research in the area of Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamics.
Oisín joined Aon in 2014, previously working in academia and spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Purdue University using Data Science in Fluid Dynamics research. At Aon, Oisín leads a team of talented Data Scientists, who focus on rapidly bringing innovative solutions to bear on a wide range of problems such as claims analytics, risk modelling and customer insights.
Fergal holds a PhD in Genetics from the Queen’s University, Belfast and a BSc in Biotechnology from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Prior to Aon, Fergal spent nearly 10 years with Accenture’s Financial Services practice, leading teams in technology and regulatory change programmes in financial institutions including Nordea, AIG, Barclays and Allied Irish Banks.
Adam leads a number of teams developing Data Science and Machine Learning capabilities at scale to power innovative experiences in Europe’s largest e-commerce fashion business, Zalando.
Adam has a PhD in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning from DCU and has 14 years experience working in Software Engineering and Data Science. Adam is passionate about scalable platform approaches and incorporating data science into the end-to-end product lifecycle to transform businesses and customer experiences.
Andrew has over 40 years of experience in helping to gain insight from data. He has worked with many blue-chip clients to deliver value from their own and external data in innovative ways that often challenge the organisation more than the technology.
Passionate about creating value and thinking differently he is able to use his variety of roles in engineering, marketing, product development, technology, team building and leadership to his work with clients.

DR. RICARDO SIMON CARBAJO
Dr. Ricardo Simon Carbajo is the Head of Innovation & Development at CeADAR – The National Centre for Applied Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.
He leads the IDG group which is comprised of senior data scientists focusing on the development of data science solutions for industry partners operating in a large range of verticals (energy, manufacturing, insurance, fintech, healthcare, telecoms, etc). He is also responsible for EU Research & Innovation and actively participates in European colloquiums and events to foster collaboration at EU level. Prior to this position, Ricardo was Adjunct Lecturer, Senior Research Fellow and Post-Doctoral Researcher in Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and Dublin City University. Ricardo was also the founder of a start-up company in the Industry 4.0 area.
Robin actively contributed to building products and platforms that accelerated the Digital Transformation of industries using the power of Data.
He works as the Chief Analytical Officer for wefox, the largest Insurtech in Europe – and has held many senior leadership roles in both Fortune 100 companies like Cisco and agile FinTech startups.
Peter Elger is a founder and CEO of fourTheorem. Formerly a physicist working at the JET project, Peter was previously co-founder and CTO of Stitcher Ads a social advertising platform and nearForm a node.js consultancy.
Peter holds degrees in theoretical physics and computer science. An experienced conference speaker, Peter is a co-author of the Node Cookbook and several academic papers on software methodology. Peter’s latest book ‘AI as a Service’ is available from Manning Publications.
Dr. Michael Phelan
Michael is a senior technology leader with over 20 years’ experience studying and working in Data Science. He has a PhD in supply chain optimization and is currently a technology leader in AI for Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain globally.
Michael has published in various international publications and presents at international conferences on AI. He lectures in Data Science & Analytics and promotes STEM in primary schools using Lego robotics. Michael is also a member of the Analytics Industry Advisory Council for Munster and was awarded Data Scientist of the Year at the 2018 DatSci Awards.
Dr. Josiane Xavier Parreira
Dr. Josiane Xavier Parreira is a Senior Research Scientist at Siemens AG Austria. Her main research interests are on semantic sensor networks, IoT and data analysis. She was previously a postdoctoral researcher, adjunct lecturer and project leader at The Insight Research Center Galway, Ireland, former Digital Enterprise Research Institute.
She holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in computer science from the Max Planck Institute for Informatics – University of Saarland, Germany.
A data scientist at Microsoft with a PhD from EPFL in Communication and Computer Sciences. With a strong technical background in probability theory and computer science, and a diverse experience applying mathematical techniques to various real world applications in healthcare, the news industry and content delivery, telecommunications as well as years of experience in higher level education as an instructor and a researcher.
He is an advocate of applying ML and AI to enhance human capability to drive growth, welfare and prosperity.
Dr. Walter Weigel
Dr. Walter Weigel is VP and CSO of Huawei European Research Institute, member of the Innovationsdialog of the German Government, the BDVA Board of Directors, the Senate of Acatech, the Board of 5GAA, the IEEE-SA Board of Governors, and the Digital Manufacturing Executive Council.
He is former member of the Key Enabling Technologies working group of DG Grow and former Director General of the European Telecommunication Standards Institute.
Giselle is the Executive Director of DataKind UK, an organisation that helps the social sector use data science by bringing together social change organisations and pro-bono data scientists. Previously, Giselle has worked in the Government (including in the Prime minister’s strategy unit), and for national charities and thinktanks, using data to better inform public policy decisions. She believes that smart, responsible data collection and use can help the social sector tackle some of the UK’s biggest challenges.
Giselle has an BSc in Maths and Physics, a MSc in computational journalism and diplomas in economics and manned spaceflight.
Stefan Decker is professor RWTH Aachen University, and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT).
Previously he held positions at NUI Galway as Director of the Digital Enterprise Research Institute and later Insight at NUI Galway, at the Information Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California, at Stanford University, and at the University of Karlsruhe.
His research interest is Linked Data and Web Information Systems.
Jen Stirrup is the Data Whisperer. Jen is a data strategist and technologist, with over twenty years’ experience in delivering Artificial Intelligence and Business Intelligence projects worldwide. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP), a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and Microsoft Regional Director.
Jen is the founder of Data Relish Ltd, a boutique Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Business Intelligence consultancy based in the UK. Jen holds expertise in a range of technologies, including Tableau, Power BI, R, database and Azure cloud technologies. Jen has written books on Machine Learning in the cloud as well as analytics and data visualization.
Jen is an advocate of diversity in technology, international public speaker and blogger, published author and keynote speaker. She is a noted influencer, identified as Top 17 Influencers in Big Data and Analytics and one of the 10 Female Influencers You Should Follow. She has been noted as one of the Top 20 women working wonders in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science and Big Data, and, rather humorously, Top ‘Badass’ Women working in Data.
Over 20 years’ experience working with data across finance and telecommunications, delivering analytical solutions to business needs using advanced methods. An advocate for unlocking the value that data holds, heads up the Advanced Analytics and Innovation function in Three Ireland, leading a team of data scientists and engineers in developing rapid insights and Proof of Concepts across the business, from CRM to IOT
Holds a BSc in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics and an MSc in Mathematics.
Aoife has spent the last 15 years developing analytical models and processes for major national and international companies in banking, finance, insurance, gaming and manufacturing. Aoife has developed particular expertise in customer insight analytics, fraud analytics, and risk analytics. Aoife founded The Analytics Store in 2009 to pursue her passionate belief in the importance of developing in-house analytics talent in organisations. Aoife works with organisations to help them build world class analytics teams and processes through a unique mix of training, consultancy, and mentoring. Aoife is a co-author of the textbook “Fundamentals of Machine Learning for Predictive Data Analytics: Algorithms, Worked Examples & Case Studies” published in 2015 with MIT Press.
Aoife’s qualifications include a M.Sc. Financial and Industrial Mathematics from Dublin City University and an B.Sc. (Honours) Statistics and Computer Science from National University of Ireland, Maynooth.
Roberta is a statistician with a 25 years experience in Data and Text Mining applications in the retail, insurance, manufacturing, telecom, healthcare and public administration domains.
She’s been participating to several National and European funded research projects and giving lectures at workshops, courses and international schools. She is currently involved in the ICT-11-2018 CYBELE project and in the Italian IND4.0 Competence Center BI-REX.
Dr Gráinne Watson
Gráinne gained her PhD from Stanford in 2015 before returning home to join the burgeoning tech sector in Ireland.
She has both start-up and corporate experience and is now is Head of Product: Digital and Innovation for Capita and responsible for offerings in the Digital and Innovation space across the UK and Ireland ranging from Data Analytics and AI to robotics.
Dr Ahmed Khamassi
Ahmed is a machine learning / artificial intelligence authority with a keen interest in innovation.
He leads the data science and design thinking teams part of Equinor’s Digital Centre of Excellence. Ahmed is focused on creating innovative machine learning / AI driven products that support the DCoE’s strategic mission. Before joining Equinor, Ahmed successfully founded and grew a ML/AI technology startup that builds products for clients in various industries.
Laure Le Bars
Laure Le Bars is a Research Project Director at SAP Research & Innovation. She started an initiative on Quantum Computing @SAP. She is working on several projects like Big Data Value Association www.bdva.eu (Board of Directors and President; BDVe project manager), and Smart Data Innovation Lab (www.sdil.de deputy coordinator until 2016), EIT Digital (principal of staff, office of the CEO; SAP project coordinator) or Academy Cube. She is also involved in the French-German cooperation on Digital Economy.
Before that, she set up SAP Labs Canada and was the Managing Director of the lab since its inception in 1997 until 2008. In parallel, she conducted an analysis for a lab in Central & East Europe in 2004, established the lab in Budapest and was the Managing Director of SAP Labs Hungary until 2007. She won in 2007 the Stevie Award for Women in Business in category “Best executive–non-services-under 2500 employees”; and was nominated in category “Best Canadian Executive”.
She was sitting on the Industrial Advisory Board of SWEBOK (Software Engineering Body of Knowledge www.swebok.org), a joint initiative of IEEE Computer Society and UQAM to achieve international consensus on the body of knowledge in software engineering.
Laure Le Bars holds degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science and Economics from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Informatique pour l’Industrie et l’Entreprise, Groupe Centrale, Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, in France. Her thesis dealt with Operation Research for Artificial Intelligence at GERAD (Groupe d’études et de recherche en analyse des décisions) in Montréal, Canada.
After 2 MSc degrees in Statistics and Math, Olivier spent the last 2 decades in the data science era, from junior statistician to global head of data science, mainly in the Banks and financial area. From national credit companies to global companies ( SCOR, HSBC) From SAS to Python, from samples to big data, from descriptive to predictive modeling but always with the same passion for turning data into information.
As a judge, Olivier expects to be surprised by a right mix between creativity and pragmatism.
Dr. Susan Wegner
Dr. Susan Wegner strives to develop her skill set as a pioneer and expert in Technology, Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics and Data/Artificial Intelligence Governance every single day.
As a computer scientist and mathematician – studying in Berlin and North Carolina (USA) – she had the privilege to be an early adopter of Artificial Intelligence leading to her PhD. Susan had the opportunity to gain experience in several different positions and companies in her career e.g. e.g. Robert Bosch, T-Systems, Deutsche Telekom Innovation Labs, Deutsche Telekom. Her current position is VP of Data, Artificial Intelligence and Governance at Deutsche Telekom. This includes the establishment of a company-wide AI/data governance program, drive the AI/data analytics strategy forward, leverage initiatives of existing shared competencies and have the focus on the effective exploitation of data and analytics to deliver business value. Susan is Managing Board Member of the Bitkom Big Data Group and additionally, since November 2018 she is Member of the European Commission Expert Group on Business-to-Government (B2G) Data Sharing.
Pat has 25 years’ experience working as an IT Professional. In his current role, he works as a Technologist with Enterprise Ireland & IDA Ireland clients, advising & evaluating on ICT R&D opportunities. Areas that interest him most include AI Machine Learning / Neural networks & Cyber Security.
Through his industry contacts & knowledge he has a proven appreciation of how Data Analysis, Governance & Machine Intelligence can build credible, sustainable & lucrative business expansion opportunities.
Niamh is a Director in FTI Consulting, Managing Director of Holistic Analytics and Volunteer Solution Architect for the Irish Red Cross.
Her background is in Digital Analytics and Optimisation, with particular focus on Clickstream Digital Analytics in Cloud Datawarehouses/Customer Data Platforms and structuring and managing A/B Testing and Personalisation programs. Other ongoing projects include Digital Transformation projects in Financial Services and baselining Enterprise Data Strategy in government bodies against the National Data Strategy 2019-2023 with FTI Consulting, and Salesforce and Java Application support for the Red Cross Migration Team.
Kate leads the Marketing Science team for Gaming EMEA at Facebook.
Before joining Facebook she spent a number of years in both Paddy Power and Bank of Ireland and has worked in Data Science roles with a focus on Customer and Marketing Analytics for the past 8 years.
Nuria de Lama
Nuria de Lama studied Telecommunications Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. She has spent more than 20 years working with Innovation in different technology environments. In the last 10 years, her focus has been on platform ecosystems, IoT and Big Data. Since 2010 she holds the position of European Programs Manager at Atos, coordinating the Strategy of Atos Research & Innovation in European collaborative research. She combines the technology background with good knowledge of policy and vertical domains (especially smart cities, industry 4.0 and agrifood), which she currently uses in the context of Digital Transformation activities. She was one of the active founders of the Big Data Value Public Private Partnership, where she played the role of Vice-Secretary General of the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) until she elected member of the Board of Directors. She coordinates the Steering Committee of such initiative (40+ active projects) and contributes to projects like BDVe (Big Data Value ecosystem) and DataBench (Big Data benchmarks). She is member of the Organizing Committee of several Big Data events such as the European Big Data Value Forum and acts as external advisor to several projects, including I-BiDaaS (Industrial-Driven Big Data as a Self-Service Solution), Data Pitch (a program for Startups to innovate with data) or NGIoT (roadmap for new generation IoT).
Along her career she has worked in more than 40 R&I projects; she has acted as independent expert for the European Commission in many occasions as proposal evaluator, project reviewer and rapporteur, and has a long track record of participation as speaker in international conferences and events.
Stefan is an analytics leader with a vast experience of applying analytics to transform business processes. He formed the British Airways Data Science & Innovation team in 2017. The team has a challenging remit to influence senior business leaders in the strategic application of data science and machine learning.
Sinead is a Data Scientist with 7 years of experience working in advanced analytics in both industry and consulting.
Having studied Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Science in university, she proceeded to complete a masters in Business Analytics in 2014. Generating value from data takes intense creativity and technical discipline; she has been lucky to do both in her career to date.

Alessandra Sala is the Head of Analytics Research at Nokia Bell Labs, Technology Advisory Board Member at CeADAR and Irish Ambassador of Women in AI. In her role of Head of Analytics Research she has more than 10 years of experience in research and innovation, both in academia and industry, specifically on advanced analytics, customer experience, AI-based automation of cloud applications and machine learning for networks orchestration. Proven track record of transferring innovation from research into business units, strong experience with a wide range of telco products and systems, managing diverse teams in multiple locations and business relationships.

Mark is an experienced technology leader with over 20 years’ experience in the application of innovative data solutions in the technology industry. He is currently Chief Data Officer at Yo, a Dublin based social connection platform startup.
Kevin O’Brien is Coillte’s Forestry Resource Modeller, based in their offices in Limerick. Kevin has been very active in the data science community over the past decade, and is now a director of Python Ireland, the Community lead for Forwards: The R Foundation taskforce on women and other under-represented groups, a European R User Meeting conference committee member, and Social media chair of JuliaCon. He was formerly a Mathematics and Statistics lecturer at the University of Limerick.
Michele Berlingerio, PhD, is managing the Artificial Intelligence team at the Center for Intelligent Power, Eaton, in Dublin. Previously, he has been a Research Staff Member at IBM Research Ireland. Prior to that, he has been a post-doc researcher at the CNR in Pisa, and visiting post-doc at Rutgers University.
He holds more than 50 publications and patents, and was General and Program Committee Co-Chair for the ECML-PKDD 2018 conference.
Michele also won the 2017 DatSci Award for Best use of Data to Achieve Social Impact.
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefanie Lindstaedt is the Head of the Institute for Interactive Systems & Data Science (ISDS) at Graz University of Technology and CEO of Know-Center (www.know-center.at), Austria‘s leading Research Center for Data-driven business and Big Data Analytics. By annually undertaking more than 50 applied science projects Know-Center effectively bridges the gap between science and industry, already since 2001.
Stefanie has an excellent track record in obtaining EU and Austrian funding (e.g. APOSDLE IP, MATURE IP, MIRROR IP, LAYERS IP, STELLAR NoE, OrganicLingua, EEXCESS, CODE, SemI40, …) and leading large interdisciplinary research projects and groups.
She has published more than 150 scientific papers in conferences and journals and supervised over 15 of Ph.D. theses. Since 2010 Stefanie is General Chair of the I-Know conference series (www.i-know.at), she acted as Program Chair of EDF 2015 and EC-TEL 2012 conferences.
Stefanie earned her habilitation in Computer Science from Graz University of Technology (Austria), where she has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses since 2002. She holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder (USA). Before joining Know-Center, she led various projects at Daimler (Chrysler) Research in Ulm (Germany) and was a product manager for web-globalization services at GlobalSight in Boulder (USA).
Stefanie is an interdisciplinary researcher in the fields of data-driven business and adaptive systems. She has a strong background in computer science, especially artificial intelligence. Her research focus is the integration of data-driven approaches (e.g., machine learning, neural networks) with knowledge-based models (e.g., ontologies, engineering models) and human computer interaction.
On the business side, Stefanie has extensive industry experience in process and technical consulting, solution sales, marketing and organizational development for international companies.
Murhaf is an AI Architect in ADAPT Centre, Trinity College Dublin. His main interests and expertise are in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Prior to ADAPT Centre, Murhaf worked in Apple Inc. for 5 years, where he was working on Apple’s software, ensuring that they can be fully localised to different languages and specific regions.
He led many projects during his research career, which used the power of Data Science in order to solve complex real world problems. Specifically in the areas of knowledge extraction from textual and visual data, in addition to language technologies, dialog systems and knowledge representation. Murhaf won the 2018 DatSci award for Best Contribution to Data Science from Academic Research Body.
Martin leads Deloitte Ireland’s Big Data capability in the Analytics & Cognitive team. He has over 12 years’ experience working in Big Data, data engineering and business intelligence. Martin is passionate about data’s ability to support organisations make informed decisions.
